HOURS OF WORK: 15 hours a week @ £20 an hour

TIME FRAME: Funding is guaranteed until end of February 2024; we anticipate that this period will be extended through 2024

STATUS: Short-term contract for self-employed consultant

LOCATION: Work from home, based in Uist.

NOTE to this Job Description

From mid-January we will also be looking for a photographer to do maternity cover for six to nine months.  This would involve 7 hours a week.  If you feel you can also do the photography for Uist Beò, in addition to the social media and digital work, then please state so in your application form.

1. PURPOSE

To support the on-going development of the Uist Beò social media and digital platforms, by managing and boosting Uist Beò’s social media¸ contributing content development for the platforms as part of a small team, and managing the uist.co website.  A particular focus will be to extend Uist Beò’s outreach to engage young people (teenagers and pupils) in the platform.

2. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will:

  1. manage Uist Beò’s social media presence on instagram, facebook, X (formerly twitter) and tiktok, being responsible for regularly designing and sharing, uploading and boosting content, promoting engagement, and interacting with followers as the public voice of Uist Beò, including managing the Uist Beò e-mail account
  2. identify and develop creative content for Uist Beò’s social media and website, including outreach to young people, businesses and communities in Uist and the Uist diaspora, using the Uist Beò branding, including with Canva.
  3. manage Uist Beò’s website content by regularly uploading new material and refreshing existing content and design
  4. engage younger age groups, in particular teenagers and school pupils, to contribute and engage with the Uist Beò platform; this will include managing permissions
  5. work closely with the Uist Beò team in managing and developing the Uist Beò platform.
  6. undertake additional tasks as required for the successful develpment of the Uist Beò platforms and brand
  7. work on a weekly basis to deliver on the above tasks.
  8. report on a weekly basis to the Uist Beò team meeting, and to CoDeL’s Directors as required
  9. maintain and submit regular timesheets with time and activities completed.

The appointed person will be paid monthly against timesheets and concrete evidence from Uist Beò’s digital platforms.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The post holder must:

  • have a high level of digital proficiency on the primary social media platforms (facebook, instagram,  X (formerly twitter) and tiktok, and be confident working with wordpress.
  • be creative/innovative in developing attractive digital content using a content creation platform such as Canva or Adobe Suite; experience editing video content for social media is desirable.
  • have excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially on digital platforms.
  • be able to engage effectively with young people and adults, including teenagers
  • be comfortable working as part of a small and enthusiastic team.
  • be a highly motivated and organised individual with a strong commitment to deliver on Uist Beò’s objectives and contribute to our island communities
  • have a deep understanding and appreciation of island life, its assets, communities, culture, environment and local economies.

Being a Gaelic speaker who can manage digital content in Gaelic as well as in English will be an advantage in applying for this role.
